Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does ABA stand for?
-
ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is a research-based therapy that helps individuals — particularly children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) — develop communication, social, daily living, and behavioral skills. It focuses on understanding how behavior works and using positive reinforcement to encourage meaningful progress.
-
-
Is ABA therapy evidence-based?
-
Yes. ABA is widely recognized as one of the most evidence-based treatments for autism. It is endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
-
-
Who can benefit from ABA therapy?
-
ABA therapy is most commonly used with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, but it can also benefit individuals with other developmental delays or behavioral challenges. Our team will conduct an initial assessment to determine if ABA is the right fit for your child.

What does "person-centered" mean at KindSpace?
-
Person-centered means that every treatment plan is built around your child's unique strengths, needs, and goals — not a one-size-fits-all approach. We take the time to understand your child and your family's values before designing any program.
-
-
How do I get started with KindSpace?
-
The process is simple:
-
Contact us — Reach out by phone or through our website to schedule a free intro call.
-
Insurance verification — We'll verify your child's insurance benefits at no cost to you.
-
Assessment — A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your child.
-
Begin services — Once the assessment is complete and a treatment plan is approved, services begin.
-
-
-
How long does it take to start services?
-
After your initial contact, insurance verification typically takes 3–7 business days. The BCBA assessment is then scheduled, and services can often begin within 2–4 weeks of your first call, depending on availability and insurance authorization timelines.
-
-
What information do I need to provide to get started?
-
You'll need your child's diagnosis documentation (if available), insurance card, and basic contact and demographic information. Our intake team will guide you through everything.

-
-
What insurance plans do you accept?
-
We are currently in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Carelon. We can also assist families with out-of-network benefits. Contact us to verify your specific plan.

-
How do I know what my insurance will cover?
-
We handle insurance verification for you. Once you reach out, our team will contact your insurance company to determine your benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and any authorization requirements — at no cost to you.
-
-
Will I have out-of-pocket costs?
-
This depends on your specific insurance plan. Some families have no out-of-pocket costs, while others may have a co-pay or deductible. We'll walk you through your specific benefits before services begin so there are no surprises.

Where do sessions take place?
-
KindSpace provides services in home, school, and community settings in Los Angeles County. Our clinic is located at 7032 Comstock Avenue, Suite 204, Whittier, CA 90602.
-
-
How long are sessions?
-
Session length varies depending on your child's individualized treatment plan. Sessions typically range from 2 to 6 hours, based on clinical recommendations and insurance authorization.
-
-
How often will my child receive therapy?
-
Frequency is determined by your child's assessment and treatment goals. Most children receive between 10 and 40 hours per week, depending on their needs and insurance authorization.
-
-
Who will be working directly with my child?
-
Your child will work with a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) during sessions, supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The BCBA designs the treatment plan, monitors progress, and makes adjustments regularly.
-
-
What does a typical session look like?
-
Sessions are structured but engaging. Therapists use play-based activities, natural environment teaching, and positive reinforcement to help your child work toward their goals. While it is therapeutic, it is designed to feel fun and natural for your child.
-
-
How involved do I need to be?
-
Parent involvement is one of the most important factors in a child's progress. We actively involve parents through regular meetings with your BCBA, parent training sessions, and ongoing communication. You'll always know what goals your child is working on and how to support them at home.
-
-
Will I be trained on how to support my child at home?
-
Yes. Parent training is a core part of our program. Your BCBA will regularly teach you strategies to reinforce your child's skills in everyday life, so progress doesn't stop when sessions end.
-
-
How will I know if my child is making progress?
-
Your BCBA will review data collected during every session and provide regular progress updates. We hold formal progress meetings to review goals, discuss outcomes, and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
-
-
Can I observe sessions?
-
Yes. We encourage parent observation and transparency. We believe you should always know what is happening in your child's therapy.
-
-
What if I have concerns about my child's program?
-
Please reach out to your BCBA directly at any time. Open communication is a cornerstone of how we work. If you have concerns, we want to hear them and address them promptly.
